Today the Kindergarten Classes at Berkshire Elementary celebrated the 50th day of school with a traditional 1950s sock hop! Mr. Forbes shared his gymnasium and the classes rocked out to the beat of fifties music! They even had a visit from Zero the Hero, who gave them glow bracelets "in the shape of a zero" to help them remember not to be a square!
This event is an entry event for a Project Based Learning experience kindergarten is embarking on. Teachers will be tying the sock hop to the homeless, and the needs they have. We will be discussing food banks and homeless shelters, along with places where people can donate for those in need. We have found a group that is collecting socks as one of the biggest needs homeless people have over the upcoming winter months. We will be collecting socks starting Monday the 14th - November 22. The socks collected will be donated over Thanksgiving Break. If you would like to send socks in to donate, there will be donation boxes in multiple common areas throughout the building, or they can be dropped off in the office marked attention kindergarten.
